June 30/20 Update: CECRA + Mandatory Masks

Good Morning All,

It is week 16 and the last day of the month of June - I have to admit that some days it feels like we've been in this situation for a lifetime.  Here are the updates for today:

1. CECRA Extension
The Federal government has announced their intention to extend the CECRA program by one month - so it will now cover July's rent.  This program was due to end today.  A one month extension is better than nothing but we will continue to push to try and get this program to extend further to cover August and September.  This program is a shared one between the Federal and Provincial governments so both sides need to agree to these extensions.  I will keep you updated on the status of this extension as I receive more information.  As a reminder, the Province of Ontario has a temporary moratorium on commercial evictions covering the months of July and August.

2. Mandatory Masks - Toronto
This morning the Mayor announced that City Council will be moving to make the wearing of masks in the City of Toronto mandatory anytime that someone is inside a business.  This will take effect on July 7th.  Mask will also be mandatory on the TTC starting this Thursday, July 2.  I know that most of you already have signs up in front of your businesses indicating that customers must wear masks but if you don't have a sign up yet I would suggest preparing one for next week.

Finally, tomorrow is Canada Day - a very different one than we're used to. I hope that you all are able to celebrate the holiday in some way; and, if you are open tomorrow and offering any kind of specials please let me know so we can promote it on our social media platforms.

Thanks,
Susan
