Good Afternoon BIA Folks,
Another week and here's the scoop that I have to share.
Broadview Construction:
- The additional sewer repairs at Broadview and Danforth were completed this week and apparently everything is now fixed and in good working order.
- Sidewalk repairs started this week on the west side of Broadview and should be complete by early next week - depending on weather.
- Sidewalk repairs on the east side of Broadview will start next week. These repairs will span from the Tim Horton's south to Der Dietemann Antiques and will run from building facing to curb. For the businesses in this section people will still be able to get to you - the parking lane on the east side will be removed so people can walk along and there will be wood "bridges" built to each of your entrances. The city is hoping to get this work started and completed all next week but again, it will be dependent on weather. Fingers crossed that the rain skips us next week.
- SOME GOOD NEWS: For our business members located on the north side of Danforth between Ellerbeck and Broadview I'm so very pleased to confirm that the city will be fixing and completely repaving your back laneway! I've been working with them on this for a couple of months and today the funding was confirmed and the go ahead given. I don't know when the work will be done - at the moment it looks like it might be September - so after we've had to close done the west bound lane on Danforth in your section in August. I will keep you updated on the schedule.
- We've finally managed to get our two parkettes fully set up and last night for the first time this summer we were able to have a band playing in our parkette in front of Cobs/Judaline. Again, my thanks to the Carrot Common for taking in our BD Beats bands since the beginning of June when we had nowhere to go.
- Our restaurants who have stuck with the CafeTO program this year all now have their permits - seriously July 13th - oye! So tables are now out in the curb lanes and full decking and fencing will be completed in the next couple of weeks.
- In previous updates I've mentioned that we will be pushing for a repayment extension in the early Fall when the Feds return from their summer break however the Federal NDP are working on this issue in the meantime. Attached please find a very good letter from the Federal NDP Critic for Small Business and Tourism - please take a few minutes to read.
- Just a wee head's up to please not dump leftover ice into our big black planters. I know it seems like this should be okay - the ice will melt and water the planters - but in fact the ice kind of shocks the potato vines that we have planted and causes them to die.
That's it for this week. Hope you all have a good weekend.
