Good Afternoon BIA Members,
Here's the information that I have for you today.
Broadview and Danforth Construction:
- The sidewalk replacement work on the east side of Broadview south of Danforth has been completed. I know some of you were very frustrated with this work. Again, the BIA did not ask for all of this, it is determined by the City. I meet with the City and the TTC every Friday morning - have done so for the past 2 months and will continue to do so until the end of November. I fight tooth and nail to try to ensure that all of the work scheduled takes into consideration your needs as businesses but in the end it is construction work - it is messy and frustrating.
- At the moment the City is still on schedule to start the track replacement work in our section of Broadview on Tuesday, Aug. 8 - right after the August long weekend. This will be the more difficult part of the work and this is when the current southbound lane on Broadview will be closed. For our members in this section, the City is working to finalize a plan for all of your deliveries. Once this is finalized we will organize an on-line meeting so you can all get the information at the same time and flag any potential problems.
- Danforth westbound closure from Ellerbeck to Broadview - this is still scheduled to be a 2 week closure. At the moment the City is looking to do this immediately after the Taste weekend. So on Sunday, August 13 when Taste closes the City will come in during the early hours of Monday, August 14 to set up the 2 week westbound traffic closure. There are a couple of issues with the TTC that need to be sorted so this start date will hopefully be confirmed by next Friday. For the members affected in this section we will also have an on-line meeting so you all get the information at the same time and can flag any issues. Again, this start date may have to be pushed to a bit later in the month but I will let you know as soon as it is 100% confirmed.
- The Greektown BIA who owns and produces Taste, are having challenges and as a result are having to pull some components from this year's Festival. They are working on sorting all of this out and once I have confirmation on the plan I will let you know - hopefully next Friday.
- Because of the changes that need to be made I do not yet have a site plan.
- Just a quick reminder from my email yesterday - the 5th year memorial for the Danforth shooting will take place tomorrow (Saturday, July 22/23) at 5pm at Withrow Park. Anyone who wishes to attend is more than welcome.
