Good Wintery Afternoon All,
Given the snow storm happening I thought this was a good time to let you know about a couple of things that will be happening in our BIA.
1. Snow Clearing
The City was offering BIAs the opportunity to apply for a Winter Activation grant. We applied and were accepted. We will be using part of this grant to pay for curated snow removal within our BIA. Each year we have the problem of large snow mounds building up curbside and everyone has to become an experienced climber to get over them. This year we have selected 16 different spots on Danforth and Broadview where our maintenance team will come in after a heavy snow event and "cut" spaces into the mounds. We are hoping that this will make it much easier for people to get from the road to the sidewalks. We will start this tonight after the storm is over. This will be our first try at this so we may need to make some tweaks but..... I'm hoping that this will make things easier for everyone doing curbside pick-ups etc. in our BIA. The City has also committed to increasing their overall snow clearing this year including our new bike lanes - in fact the city has already started that clearing as I type this. As a reminder - each business is still responsible for clearing and salting the area in front of your location. This is required even if your business is currently closed.
2. February Love of Local Program
February and Valentine's Day are just around the corner and we will be launching a Love of Local Bag program. These will be speciality bags that people can purchase and we will deliver to them. Each bag will sell for $100.00 and each bag will contain a certificate for take-out at one of our participating restaurants and items that we will purchase from our BIA members. We are basically taking the money that we charge for the bag and spending it with you, our BIA members; and, the buyer gets a wonderful "surprise" bag of Broadview Danforth goodies packaged in one of our Broadview Danforth tote bags.
We will be promoting the Love of Local bags on our social media and people can buy their bag on our website. If you have something that you would "love" us to include in our purchases please let me know.
The idea to do these bags actually came from one of our area residents. Maya Fitzpatrick has stepped up to help roll this out and she will also be promoting the program to fellow area residents.
Thanks,
Susan
