I'm sending this in advance of my usual Friday updates so that, for those of you who wish, you can put the memorial in your calendars.

 

This Saturday, July 22, 2023 marks the 5th year since the Danforth shooting.  For those of you who were BIA members at that time you know how terribly it affected everyone in our community and it took a long time to recover from the shock of it all.

 

To mark this 5th year the City of Toronto is hosting a short and informal gathering at Withrow Park near the trees which were planted in 2019 in honour of Julianna Kozis and Reese Fallon at 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 22^nd.

 

There will be an opportunity for you to place flowers by the trees if you wish.  Following and prior to this, there will be an informal opportunity to visit with the families as well as survivors in attendance.  Mayor Chow will place flowers on behalf of City Council and the residents of Toronto. Albert Stortchak, our BIA Board Chair, will place flowers on behalf of our Broadview Danforth BIA. We understand that families will make their own visits to Alexander the Great Parkette following the ceremony and may leave flowers and candles as in the past.
