IMPORTANT: DANFORTH LANE CLOSURE AFTER TASTE

Good Evening Broadview Danforth BIA Members,

I'm sending this information to all BIA members because it's important that everyone understands what the westbound lane closure on Danforth between Ellerbeck and Broadview will look like and how things will operate beginning this Monday, August 14/23.

This lane closure to westbound traffic also means that the north side of the Broadview Danforth intersection will be closed and there will be no southbound traffic allowed on Broadview from Pretoria to Danforth.  People who need to travel west onto the bridge will have to go up Ellerbeck to Pretoria and over to Cambridge and then south on Cambridge to Danforth and make a right turn onto the bridge.  Broadview south of Danforth will remain as it currently is with the one northbound traffic lane and no southbound traffic from Danforth to Gerrard.  All sidewalks will be open.

For our business members located on Broadview north between Danforth and Pretoria you will still have local traffic access for deliveries and garbage pick-ups. For any of your customers who drive they will have to use the Green P lot on Erindale or find side street parking and walk to your location.

For our business members on the north side of Danforth between Ellerbeck and Broadview below are the details for your deliveries, garbage collection and customer parking for pick-ups.  Please read through carefully.

The City's construction team will be able to accommodate deliveries on the north side of Danforth Avenue between the intersection work area and Ellerbeck Street.  This area will be for deliveries only and is not intended for customer parking.  Customers will be required to park in locations on surrounding side streets or the TPA lot.

The area will be barreled off as shown in the attached drawing.

We ask that businesses inform their delivery persons to travel eastbound on Danforth Avenue, past the intersection.

The City's team have arranged to have off-duty Toronto Police along with traffic control people (aka flag people) to be stationed in the immediate area. The traffic control people will move the barrels to allow for entry of delivery trucks into the closed north side travel lane to be able to stop and load/unload.  Toronto Police and traffic control will be on-site from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Friday to assist with this activity. We are also arranging for traffic control to be on-site on Saturdays and Sundays to help facilitate weekend deliveries but need to confirm the expected timing of deliveries to the businesses.  You are being asked to let your delivery services know that they should enter this section of Danforth heading eastbound from the bridge.  If they try a westbound approach they won't be able to make a u-turn in order to exit the area.

During the intersection work, our local delivery zone on Danforth Avenue located in the right-turn lane onto Broadview Avenue (southbound) will be removed to make way for the eastbound travel lane.  Businesses south of Danforth Avenue on Broadview Avenue will continue to have delivery access along the west curb lane as exists today.

Additionally, we will have barrels set-up on Ellerbeck Street at Danforth Avenue and Pretoria Avenue at Broadview Avenue, to ensure that cars do not park at the entrances to these streets and limit the turning movements for any trucks that need to access these streets to go around the construction closure.

I also want to note that rain is in the forecast for Monday.  Should there be heavy rain and/or lightning in the early morning at around 7 a.m. when the contractor is expected to begin set-up of the intersection closure, they may need to delay until the weather cooperates.

For those north lane Danforth businesses that receive waste pick-up by the City, please lable your bins with your address and place out as normal.  The City team is working with Solid Waste Management staff to arrange for pick-up and will either have the contractor move all bins to a central area for the City crews and return the bins to the addresses following pick-up or will have crews enter the delivery area to perform the pick-up.

I know that this is a lot of information and this closure is happening directly after Taste so if you have any questions etc. please do not hesitate to email me.

Thanks,

Susan
