May 25/20 Update: City Announcement re: bike lanes

Good Afternoon All,

This morning Mayor Tory issued a press release detailing plans to expand the City's Active TO program - this includes, among other things,  the installation of bike lanes throughout various areas of the City and yes, on the Danforth from Victoria Park to Broadview.  Attached is the full release and below is a link to the release.

Unfortunately the plan comes without any details.  Please know that your Board of Directors and myself are working to get details and you know that I will share any information with you as soon as I have it.

We have already spoken to our City of Toronto BIA office and Transportation Services about the stress that this kind of announcement generates.  We've listed the following concerns that require immediate attention:
- Our businesses are fighting to survive and, as such, are utilizing curbside pick-ups and deliveries.  How is this supposed to work with a bike lane?
- Our area is effectively utilizing the CurbTO areas in order to provide social distancing in front of businesses that have consistently long lines.  How is this supposed to work with a bike lane?
- Parking - how will this work?
- Purposed patio extensions to the curb - I know that our restaurant members will want access to this once they're able to open but again the question is how does this work with a bike lane and people wanting to walk on the sidewalk?

We will work to get answers to the above as quickly as possible.
